Greetings.
This essential salts thing has been scratching at the back door of my
memory, then finally Mark wrote...

Old novel.
Can't remember the title.
Late '40s, I guess.
Probabbly mentioned in one of the old Moskowitz articles.
The gist of the thing: the guys go and resurrect Hitler form his
ashes/essential salts/whatever.
The catch: the stuff's been mixed with the remnants of Eva Braun.
Result: female version of the dictator, with all the guy's PR/popular
persuasion capabilities PLUS all the general female attractives _and_
sensibilities.
Cue to: the Dark Lady of the Fouth Reich.
Oh, yes, and it's supposed to be a highly dramatic story (not the comedy
one could imagine from the starting point).
I guess the Dritte Threesome would love it.

Hi, Phil!

After posting that short rambling message, I tried to track down the source
of that memory, to no avail. Now, while I was answering your post with a
negative reply, it finally hit me and I went and dug out the magazine and
the article.
My dim recollection came from Sfere, a semiprozine published in Italy in
1984. I somehow got it mixed with the Moskowitz stuff I was reading at the
time. Anyway...
There are actually _two stories_ that fit the bill.
. "Roes", a novel by Negri & Visconti
The eponymous "hero" saves the essential salts of both Hitler and Eva Braun
from the bunker and unknowingly resurrects them as a single "golem-like"
(?) individual, that unites the powers of persuasion of AH and the feminine
guiles of EB. The novel should be an "existential drama" too, whatever that
might be.
. Hitler in Gonnella (Beskirted Hitler), a novel by Bruno Cotronei
The story is centered on the actual daughter of Hitler and his aryan
sweetheart, spirited away after the German defeat and resurfacing now as a
fully grown (catch the hint, please) woman. The ambitious girl sets out
conquering the world, by divulging a "new gospel" that's an uncanny mix of
Nazism and Feminism (!)
While I'd like (in a perverse, autolisionistic way) to get a copy of each
just for kicks, both novels are thankfully out of print, as they most
likely belong to the crappy '60s wave of Italian "scandalous" science
fiction. The Cotronei entry is not only silly in its premises, but features
a slightly offensive (in Italian, at least) title that can give quite a few
ideas about the tone and contents of the novel. Cotronei himself should be
around still, probably producing more hackwork.
I hope you find the above useful, or at least amusing.
[btw, I'm posting part of the above to the list too, as some others where
interested. Sorry if you get two copies. I'm keeping your idea of an EH
twist for myself]
> Thanks in advance
You're welcome.

Cheers.
A few days back I posted a rambling piece that generated some modest
curiosity among some list-members

It did take quite a while but finally, on a sudden illumination, I
remembered and tracked down the reference: my dim recollection came from an
embarassing article in "Sfere", a semiprozine published in Italy in 1984. I
somehow got it mixed with the Moskowitz stuff I was reading at the time.
Anyway...
There are actually _two stories_ that fit the bill.
. Roes, a novel by Negri & Visconti
In this esistential drama (LOL), the eponymous "hero" saves the essential
salts (or stuff) of both Hitler and Eva Braun from the Berlin bunker;
subsequently, he unknowingly resurrects them as a single "golem-like" (?)
individual, that unites the powers of persuasion of AH and the feminine
guiles and charms of EB.
. Hitler in Gonnella (Beskirted Hitler), a novel by Bruno Cotronei
The story is centered on the actual daughter of Hitler and one of his aryan
sweethearts, spirited away after the German defeat and resurfacing now as a
fully grown (catch the hint, please) woman. The ambitious girl sets out
conquering the world, by divulging a "new gospel" that's an uncanny mix of
Nazism and Feminism (!) and gathering - of course - a wide consensus.
Both novels are Publisher/Year Unknown.
While I'd like (in a perverse, autolesionistic way) to get a copy of each
just for kicks, both novels are thankfully out of print; they most likely
belong to the crappy '60s wave of Italian "scandalous" (= lousy) science
fiction, a poor relation to the British New Wave. The Cotronei entry is not
only silly in its premises, but features a slightly offensive (in Italian,
at least) title that can give quite a few ideas about the tone and contents
of the novel.
Incidentally, Cotronei should still be around writing stuff, but I am not
going to look for him or any other masterpiece og his.

Well m8, I vote for the Secret Submarine Volcano Base as the setting, with a
special playroom for Anya and her chums, possibly with Famke Jansen (?)
starring as Anya's celebrity look-alike (useful visualisation tool), you
know, the one from the first Brosnan Bond movie, Golden-Eye...
And of course, you get to write it ;)
