Part Two: Broken Anvil (Bavarian alps)

Team B will head to Bavaria to investigate the ruins of Castle Naudabaum (some scientific staff would be appropriate at this point). The area has been sealed off by the military since the war - it seems the area is supposedly saturated with unexploded munitions (this is a cover story put out by Delta Green when they got army engineers to cordon it off in 1945). Team B will find no trace of Naudabaum - only a huge crater atop a steep incline that was presumably once a mountain. The trees immediately surrounding the area are all petrified or knocked down. There is no sign of life. Geiger counters will suggest background radiation in the area is rather high - although probably not at a harmful level. The Team should experience some unusual, relativistic effects. Boffin types will probably speculate this is the result of extra-dimensional disturbance or 'tremors'. The aftershock of whatever it was that happened. psychics along for the ride will be unable to get any kind of reading on the area - it's been wiped clean of even psychic traces.

Eventually, Stefan Alzis shows up. He will approach the team casually and will be quite genial and forthcoming. This, he explains, is a place where a God touched the Earth. He will explain what the Karotechia attempted;- to bring pure chaos and destruction down upon this reality and attempt to contain it. He'll describe how seven skilled Karotechia sorcerers and the whole of the SS's newly formed ESPer corp ('MINDhunters') failed to contain it, and died. Seconds later it lashed out with nuclear violence and wiped all evidence of the Karotechia's pathetic attempt to understand real power off the face of the planet. The area is a little worse for the wear.

At this point, they'll either hear their car(s) getting smashed up, or, if they've left a guard, they will come under attack from a large group of German hillbillies, armed with shotguns, pitchforks and so on. Alzis will explain that many of these Bavarian hillsfolk (residents of the nearby village Lichenhaum) saw Naudabaum destroyed back in 1945; and the entity that did it. They have worshipped that entity in their quiet, backwoods way ever since. To them, this site is holy ground.

The people of Lichenhaum are something more than traditional CoC backwoods cultists. When Azathoth exploded into our dimension at Naudabaum, time and space were literally torn asunder. The area has never recovered. To some of the Lichenhaum townsfolk, Naudabaum was destroyed fifty years ago. To others, it was a month ago. Some can still see the face of their God looking down on them from the sky, and deciding to spare them (that's what they think they saw anyway). Their proximity to the 'incident' also saw them bombarded with lethal amounts of radiation to boot; all are dying from radiation poisoning. However, the strange, relativistic affects of that same 'incident' mean that only a few have actually perished - even after fifty years. Most have long suspected something is amiss, however, and have begun to drink animal and human blood in an attempt to cure themselves of whatever ails them. Any of the team who find themselves captured is in serious trouble, and will be 'bled' to death in order to feed the townsfolk's appetites unless his comrades can rescue him.

The Woods around Naudabaum are similarly affected by the time/space distortion. The team should be able to escape into them easily enough, but will experience the same kind of relativistic affects the Lichenhaum townsfolk have been experiencing. There might also be appropriate mythos creatures roaming around them, attracted by the very weak fabric of reality at this point. If they're really unfortunate, they might even see the moment Naudabaum was destroyed, and what did it.

Alzis disappears in the confusion (he feels he's given the agents enough to work on), and the agents can concentrate on escaping the area unscathed. This shouldn't be too difficult to accomplish - although there should be plenty of SAN lost flying around. All they'll really have to report at the end of it is that if the Karotechia have this same thing planned, then there's going to be big trouble.
