Part Three: Falling Down (Saxony-Anhalt)

The agents might decide to jump in a car and follow Kahn; or worse, try and drive straight to Klieber's place (although there's no particular reason they should just assume he's on his way there). This should be extremely difficult unless they're proficient in German and have some special reason to have good local knowledge. Kahn knows these streets like the back of his hand, and will easily lose the agents, or take short cuts and get to Klieber's place ahead of them. The sensible thing to do is to alert the BKA to the situation;- they will put an APB out on Kahn's vehicle and send officers round to Klieber's in order to affect an arrest (there's enough circumstantial evidence on the dead Aryan Bruders to justify this)

Alternatively, it's possible the Bischoffe has escaped with the book. He won't fanny about, and will use magical means to reach his destination. If this happens, the agents should get to Klieber's as quickly as possible - Kahn, still on side in this eventuality, will arrange for a helicopter and back-up.

A note on Klieber's residence:

Blut Lodge is located in the German state of Saxony-Anhalt. Away from the main cities, it's located on the hillside of a small mountain near the Eastern border of the state - offering a good vantage point over the surrounding scenery. Klieber's residence is built on the West side of the mountain; the east side of the mountain is the 'blind' side, but is a difficult climb. Klieber also has several hi-tech surveillance devices to monitor this 'Achilles heel'. The only way to approach the residence normally is to follow a winding private road up the mountain. This is under constant surveillance, and it would be impossible to approach Blut Lodge undetected by this route.

Blut Lodge is built on the site of a 14th century castle heavily damaged during the last war; Further abuse was visited upon the site by ruthless Communist civil engineers who intended to build a prison on the ruins. That plan was never completed, however, and Klieber acquired the estate in 1995. There was little left of original castle, at least at ground level; only a single tower remains, on top of which Klieber has a concealed machine gun nest. The main building, a circular concrete block, with an extension attached (that acts as a makeshift barracks and an exercise hall for visiting Bruders) consists of five levels - The top two acting as living space for the owner and guests, with an armoury in the basement, reception area on the ground floor, and a kitchen and 'mess-hall' on the first. There is a helicopter pad on the roof of the extension (accessible from the third floor), a swimming pool just in front of the house, and a number of concealed defensible positions scattered about the garden that surrounds it. The rear of the main building backs onto the mountain, and also onto concealed rooms that were part of the original castle - dug into the rock of the hill. These are secret hidey holes that no one knows about except Klieber and those he decides to tell (ie. Galt). They are concealed behind flimsy walls and secret passages.

The name Blut Lodge is a local joke - a vampire reputedly lived in the old castle at one point - Klieber laughed off the locals concern for his safety, and named his home in good humour

At Klieber's place then, one way or another, the Karotechia have the book, and are aware of Delta Green's involvement (Kahn can tell them directly; otherwise Galt will infer it from the Bischoffe's description of events). Galt will contact La Estancia to notify them he has the De Vermiis Mysteriis; he will also tell them about Delta Green's involvement, and if they are not already aware of it, LiBretto (Kahn can provide most of the details). Klieber will call for a helicopter that will take them to his private and secret airstrip. Unbeknownst to Klieber or Galt, Skorzeny and Die Lebenstentoten are listening in and have already killed Klieber's pilot and seized his helicopter. At this point however, the BKA advance party will arrive, accompanied by several state police. The Aryan Bruders are already spooked at the news filtering in from Dresden, and will open fire on the approaching officers (four are killed; the remaining five make it to cover and radio for a Spezialeinsatzkommandos unit - SEK; the German SWAT). The Bruders meanwhile dig in. Galt and Klieber wait for their chopper. The agents will be helicoptered in after the SEK arrive. Blut Lodge is completely surrounded, and a GSG-9 team is en route to assault the residence. Just before the GSG-9 team arrive, Skorzeny makes his move. It's imperative that Die Lebenstentoten remove the Bischoffe if he survives; Skorzeny is unsure of the Bischoffe's magical abilities;- he may be capable of reducing them all to the liveliest awfuleness, or he may be capable of contacting Bitterich mentally and alerting him to their treason. A resurrected SS sniper lies concealed on high ground above the main cordon, and amongst the SEK's own snipers. He'll pick off the Bischoffe with a head shot; perhaps triggering a gun-battle between the SEK units and the Aryan Bruders. On the ball agents will realise its not the SEK unit firing on the Bischoffe, and try to collar the sniper. If they catch or kill him, it may pose them some interesting questions.

Whatever happens previously, a helicopter will suddenly turn up. The SEK will assume its the GSG-9 team for a moment, before realising its the escape chopper; at which point they'll open fire - although they'll only be trying to drive it away. It'll get through, and land on Klieber's helicopter pad. Galt will then order the Bruders to use several mortars they've been saving to shell the SEK's sniper positions - pinning them down and allowing the Karotechia to make a run for the chopper. Klieber and Kahn will dive in, but Galt will stop at the last moment, draw his weapon and fire into the chopper - he's recognised one of the crew as a Lebenstentoten and guessed their intentions. Galt dashes back inside, bullets exploding all around him (he should be able to take a few direct hits as well, using his ring. This could be especially useful if the agent's are trying to target him specifically). Two resurrected SS jump out after him, and the chopper lifts off (the agent's see all this from their vantage position). Moments later, the bodies of Klieber and Kahn drop out of the chopper onto the SEK , near to the agents. Their throats have been cut. The GSG-9 team turn up in their troop carrier/gunships, and the SEK order them to shoot down the chopper, which they do; nazi evil dead burn to death (again) in the flaming wreckage. The Bruders run out of mortar shells at this point, and the SEK re-intensify their fire on their positions to act as cover for the GSG-9 team, who abseil from their helicopters onto the roof of the residence.

At this point, the agents should really think about getting the hell in there so as to make sure the book doesn't get away again. Five SEK are going to make their way up towards the building to pick off anyone who tries to run for it. If the agents don't suggest it, their BKA liaisons will say they ought to accompany the team.

Between the SEK and GSG-9, most of the Bruder's positions external to the building have been silenced. The agents can get right up to the house, where the sound of fighting is still going on. There are two main points of conflict;- Five Aryan Bruders have barricaded themselves in the armoury, and are taking up the lions share of GSG-9 commandos in the basement (in five minutes or so, they'll be tear-gassed and gunned down; it does however, keep most of the conflict out of the agent's way for the time being). Galt is pinned down in the kitchen's by the two resurrected SS commandos, who are in turn pinned down by three GSG-9 commandos. If the agents come across this scene, the SS evil dead will reluctantly turn all their attention away from Galt and try to fight off their attackers. Whilst this is going on, Galt will smash through a fake plaster wall at his end of the room, and make his way into old parts of the castle, not present on any of the architectural plans the GSG-9 and SEK teams have been studying. The room is, in fact, the old Castle's lavatories, and Galt then climbs down into the castle's septic tank, and down another sewage pipe which exits on the other side of the mountain into the small bay of a hillside river.

After killing the two SS commandos, the agents might decide to follow Galt down through the pipes (disgusting; high chance of numerous infections, especially if wounded); however, they will be too late. Waiting for Galt at the bottom of the pipe are Skorzeny and Rienhard Heydrich, who have poured several drums of kerosene into the waters of the bay. Galt hands over the book to Skorzeny.

By the time the agents arrive at the bottom of the pipe, either by the quick and dirty way, or the longer, cleaner one, all there is to see is a charred and unidentifiable corpse on the bank of the river and a burning kerosene slick on the surface of the bay.
