Heinrich was a student at Dresden's college of art in the late 1930's; a skilled dreamer, and a friend of Hermann Van Dultz, the legendary German explorer the Karotechia failed to recruit. Nazi Germany, however, was no place for dreamers. Heinrich, on Van Dultz's advice, went underground in 1938 to escape possible persecution. This quite possibly saved his life. Van Dultz, meanwhile, was arrested by the Gestapo, but managed to contact Heinrich in his dreams; - directing him to his secret library, and instructing him to hide it; which Heinrich did. Like many dreamers, however, Heinrich was not a disciplined man. As the dreams began to fade, depression set in and he turned to base magic and illegal drugs in an effort to fill the void. Although a competent mage, Heinrich is usually in a heroin-induced stupor, and is also a hopeless alcoholic. His one constant has been his guardianship of Van Dultz's library, although in recent years, he has forsaken even that - sinking him only further into a pit of self-loathing despair. He maintains a small apartment in the fashionable Neustadt part of town; using magical divination to tease the rent money out of bookmakers.

Physical Description: Pale and gaunt, Hassler is almost completely hairless; sad eyes stare out of a wrinkled, almost desiccated face. Years of heroin abuse have taken their toll; he can no longer eat anything except the most basic of foods. Hassler is a fragile old man; usually to be found wearing assorted hand me downs from thrift shops- none of which fit or match- and carrying assorted items in a plastic carrier bag. He rarely washes and is often mistaken for a tramp or vagrant. Not quite insane or senile, Hassler is still a sad and lonely shell of a man, something that always comes across to those who meet him.
