Operation: LUNACY
What Delta green know about LUNACY pre-Emerald WEB.
All the original Delta green nazi-fighters are dead (bar Agent
ROSENBORG). Most of the OSS files pertaining to the Karotechia have been
destroyed, or are dispersed through the massive beauracracy of the
federal government. Any surviving wartime operatives (i.e. ALPHONSE) are
aware of the Karotechia, but were briefed only generally at the time,
and have had no first hand experience.
The rumours concerning LUNACY hinted that the Karotechia had some kind
of final Vengeance weapon at their disposal - a 'Doomsday device'. Some
agents believed this to be Germany's first Atomic bomb; others, some
virulent new biological weapon. LUNACY operatives were obviously able to
either destroy the weapon, or else kill everyone who was capable of
operating it. Only one or two agents actually survived LUNACY, however,
and as they too are now long dead, no one actually knows or understands
what was supposed to happen.
Agent ROSENBORG can fill in a few of the blanks, but LUNACY was right at
the start of his Delta Green involvement (I'm assuming most of his
experience of the Karotechia was garnered during SOUTHERN HOSPITALITY),
and he was pretty much out of the command loop. He did however, pick
things up from his colleagues after the fact;-
In 1945, with the allies victorious in Berlin, a combination of sources
alerted Delta Green to the fact that the Karotechia had one final dark
role to play in the saga of the Third Reich.
British Intelligence contacted Delta Green to inform them several of
their precog operatives had predicted the Nazi's would make one final,
horrific offensive from the ashes of their defeat. Their psychic
specialists considered this prediction 85% accurate.
American intelligence confirmed the WEREWOLF partisans seemed to be
organising for some such operation, rather than running for South
America or surrendering to allied forces.
Captured Karotechia would usually die during interrogation rather than
inform the allies of their mysterious 'final instructions' from the
Fuhrer, but what could be got out of them convinced Delta Green's
operational commanders that the Karotechia still posed an immediate and
significant threat.
Problematically, the Karotechia would be difficult to identify and track
down - their identities known only to Himmler and Hitler themselves.
British intelligence, however, had been collecting intelligence on
occultists, fringe scientists and disreputable academics inside of
Germany both before and during the war ( the British were much more au
Fay with the Nazi's occultism than their American counterparts; having
already utilised psychological warfare of this kind to entrap Rudolf
Hess). They reasoned that these were the people the Karotechia would
recruit from and handed this 'WITCHLIST' over to Delta Green. Armed with
this Intel, delta Green spent the next few months killing their way
across Germany - no doubt slaughtering many innocents in the process,
but finding enough of the Karotechia, and seeing enough of the filth
they were capable of to keep on going. By the close of 1945, any
Karotechia that had not fled Germany were dead.
ROSENBORG was personally responsible for the deaths of more than one
Karotechia, but is unable to shed any light on what they were planning.
He does however, re-call colleagues talking about the Karotechia's
'test-site';- Naudabaum castle.
A-cell have re-opened whatever DG have left on LUNACY - concerned that
the Karotechia's current mission is related to their former. A-cell have
instructed the team en route to Germany to try and ascertain what the
Karotechia's objective was, and how they intended to fulfil it.
Naudabaum castle seems like a logical place to start.
