Hey.

A preliminary overview of the Japanese chapter of EH. I realize others have laid claim to this chapter, so chop it up and use this as fodder.

Deep places. Something dreams, waves of madness. Above, the empire Japan dreamed of crumbles before the Allied fleets. Below, Great Cthulhu slumbers, dreaming unthinkable dreams. The black waves reach out, finding a mind that will receive them. At the second in which the force of the atom breaks Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Cthulhu's dream finds (insert name), of Unit 731. (insert name) is shown the empire Japan could be, under the dominion of R'lyeh. (insert name) is given instructions: go to the coast, wait, the messenger will come, then gather the others in my name.

The man from Unit 731 went, and a Dweller in the Depths came, bestowing a hideous blessing. The man became a Thrall of Cthulhu, and the pair retreated to wait out the war and plan to rise of Cthulhu in Japan. After the war, the man from Unit 731 returned to a number of his old comrades-in-arms, and showed them the powers he had received, the things he worshiped. They joined him, and begun to pick figures within the government to share this knowledge and power with, to corrupt into the cult. Slowly, the men who governed Japan owed more and more to the man from Unit 731 and the Cthulhu Cult.

The Dweller in the Depths had not only brought the blessing of Cthulhu, but also a tool, a strange squid-like parasite that could be surgically inserted into a human. This would create a kind of Manchurian candidate, a soldier who would not even know he was a weapon, but when given a command, would transform into a clawed and tentacled killing machine. The men from Unit 731 relished the brutal surgeries needed to implant the creatures, and built a breeding farm in hopes of gaining more of the creatures. In addition, the reborn Unit 731 re-extended its fingers into China, finding old friends still in place there.

The cult's headquarters are disguised as a (???), with many sub-levels, the first been a floor of massive aquariums holding only a little more than 100 of the R'lyehian parasites. The breeding efforts have gone badly. The water in these tanks is lightless, cold and at extreme pressure, magically kept at the conditions in the trenches where Cthulhu's kingdom lies. Falling into one of these would result in death by crushing very quickly, leaving the parasites a nice meal of mangled investigator.

Beneath, is the cult's main center. Over the past decades, the Unit 731 cult has swallowed up several other cults, including, in the late 80's, a cult worshipping a group of astral entities through sexual rituals involving tentacle hentai. The rites of the two cults were blended, and using a stolen and modified Solonitsyn camera, began marketing, through front companies, films of said rites as actual anime. The sub-levels below the parasites tanks are filled with the ritual chambers of the Unit 731/hentai cult, as well as computers and studios for preparing the videos, and cells for holding sacrifices. Further, the Solonitsyn camera has been reproduced, and rooms have been set up to run certain films continuously for certain scenes or characters.

The agents may find their way to Japan through links provided in other chapters. Alternatively, a member of the US Embassy may find out about the Unit 731 cult, and he or she and their family taken as the next sacrifices.

The Bishoffe here is a Karotechia liaison for the Thrall of Cthulhu leader. He (whoever he is) strongly disapproves of the cults Cthulhu worship, and is under orders to subvert the cult to Nyarlathotep worship. He has the copy of Goddess of the Black Fan, has been ordered to cast the Summon Bloated Woman spell if the cult will not change. Both the Karotechia liaison and the Unit 731 cult will have pawns in the Japanese groups being used.

Following one of the leads into this chapter, the agents may try the following:
  1. searching the red light districts and otaku gatherings from leads on the hentai if tracing the Solonitsyn camera from a Skopsti lead from the Russia chapter.
  2. searching the medical underground if following leads from the China chapter.
  3. finding partially destroyed evidence pointing to the Cthulhu cult if using the embassy lead
Of course, at some point, the cult sics its assassins on the agents. The sight of several ordinary Japanese citizens transforming into tentacled monstrosities should be good.

The Yakuza (Japanese mob) should play a part here too.

(Sidebar: Mythos Mecha - Somehow, Japanese intelligence/defense got its hands on a Being of L'gh'yx, one of the cuboidal beings of living metal from Uranus or Neptune. Using Mythos technology, this creature has been cloned, grown, and modified into a giant bio-mechanical humanoid. Only one of these Mythos-created mecha has been formed yet, and that badly defective, but the techniques are being refined. Someday soon, these war-beasts will be ready to serve Unit 731's goals for world conquest in Cthulhu's name.)

Naturally, the section ends with Delta Green, the Karotechia soldiers, the Skopsti, and/or other factions descending on the big sacrifice/summoning (where the embassy folks are the main course/tentacle recipients). Of course, the Bischofe plans to cast the Summon Bloated Woman when the guest arrive.

Oh, yeah. Nearly forgot. Be sure to include the vengeful ghosts of a thousand atomic bomb victims.

That's what I've got for now. No, I'm not going to write this. But, I'll be happy to look over people's shoulders and grouse. ;)

Comments? Criticism? Brutal savagery?
