Delta Green

DELTA GREEN INTRODUCTION

There are several ways of getting the agents into Emerald Shell, depending on how much prodding your players need:

OFFICIAL

(For players who're dumber than a sack of rocks, and need some real help)

INDIRECT

(Information is handed to them on a plate, but they decide their own mission parameters and use a little initiative.

DARK CONSPIRACY

(The agents note the strange events on their own, and decide on their own mission. This makes the keeper's job a little harder, but is probably more satisfying in a long-term campaign).

Side-Lines Also, we have some little side missions. An extra bonus from Paranoia, some of the agents have their own agenda's when they start the mission, some of them will clash with their companion's objectives.

Mission Objectives

If the order comes down from A-Cell, then the players will be given these objectives, if they initiate the operation themselves, they should be encouraged to decide on their own objectives and rules of engagement.
AGENT: _________________

Your cell has been activated to take part in a mission in the Greater San Francisco area, travel arrangements have been made as normal.
When you arrive in San Francisco, contact Detective A. Abeysekera of the SFPD Homicide department, who will brief you on the mission background. Detective Abeysekera has Friendly STATUS and is not cleared for DELTA GREEN elvel information

You will receive copies of a partial occult tome found in the ruins of a burnt out house. This tome is extremely dangerous, and it's current whereabouts are unknown.

Your orders:
  1. Recover any surviving fragments of the book.
  2. Recover any notes/transcriptions of the book.
  3. Isolate and eliminate any occult phenomena resulting from the appearance of this book.
  4. Identify any persons exposed to the book, determine their level of threat, and act accordingly.
Rules of Engagement:
  1. Lethal force is authorized against anyone trying to recover or use the book or the knowledge contained therein.
  2. Any and all means are to be used to cover up the existence of the book and ensure there is no paper trail showing it's existence.
  3. If the book cannot be recovered, then it and any knowledge obtained from it must be DENIED to any other interested parties.

AGENT ALPHONSE

The last part of the rules of engagement is effectively a death-sentence from Cell A, they have deliberated long and hard about this, but they know they are dealing with one of the most famous and deadly occult books in existence.

There are no second chances.

This is an extremely rare occurrence, and long-time (!) DG Agents will understand just how serious the situation may be. Delta Green has ordered the execution of anyone who reads the book, and though they expect you to carry out your orders, in the interests of the organizaiton, they cannot protect you from any official re-percussions.

Travelling to San Francisco

In the normal fashion, travel has been arranged to San Francisco, usually by Greyhound, given the cash-strapped nature of the conspiracy, but by Plane if the Agents are on the East coast.

Meeting Detective Abeysekera

When they arrive, it's late, and Detective Abeysekera (pronounced Ab-Es-Keera) is on duty, they should be able to track her down to the scene of a gang-related murder:

Det. Abeysekera is a petite woman of asian-indian heritage with a nose re-set once too often, and a great deal of strength in her handshake. She appears to be a tough cookie judging by the way she's prodding through the remains of a drive-by shooting. Once she's finished she cleans her hands off and moves over to speak to you.

"Agents. A pleasure, sorry 'bout the circumstances, somebody's announced open season on petty pushers. If you'll come with me to the diner over there, we can get a coffee and discuss your case." she winks and leads you to a small all-night diner where an ageing waitress crammed into a too-tight uniform serves hot drinks for pitiful tips.

Turning her chair round before she sits, she hangs her half-length leather coat on it, showing you a dark jumper against which hides a black .45 clone. Her badge shines brightly on the thong it hangs from.

"It happened a few days ago, there was a big bust-up between the local Tong, the Kung Lok triad, and some new players, the Aryan Brotherhood, not the usual race/turf squabble you might expect, but a serious move on the AB's part to co-opt the tong's supply of designer drugs."
A few bangers got killed, and some upstanding citizens got very scared, but nothing important happened. The forensics guys bagged lots of stuff and took it back to the lab for analysis.
Nothing interseting, until I took a look at the crime scene photo's. The photo's of the basement where the fire started were different, between the initial fire -investigation photo's, and our department photographer taking pictures of the bodies, something was stolen from the scene."

She slides a pair of 8x10 photo's across the table, both show the same room, from the entryway, there are large workbenches covered with the twisted remains of barely recognizable statuary against the wall, the floor is badly scorched, but two bodies can be made out, one inside the remains of what might be a protective circle, and one just inside the doorway.

The detective starts again:

"Here in the fire-investigator's photo's, you can see a large item, roughly rectangular, 18 by 24, here in our photo's, it's gone. Now I figured it was just some fireman looking for a keep-sake. But when we examined some of the papers found nearby, I got worried.

There were translations of some pretty bad stuff, the opened page detailed a human sacrifice, the MO on the paper matched that of the corpse we found inside the ring. It was bound, partially burned and had had it's tongue cut out and it's throat slit..

When I saw the papers, and the sacrifice, I thought of you guys, I know 'The Department' is into this sort of thing, and I know you guys don't like media attention. So we put it down as a gang-banger brawl, and the press forgot about it after two days.

Then I phoned your bosses."

She finishes her coffee and shakes her head.

"I'm hoping you can make this wacko with the knife disappear to a nice secure jail before he cuts any more kids up. I've left a few copies of the official reports in my coat, and I'm going to freshen up. I'd be reprimanded if they were stolen while I was in the John, fortunately I forgot to sign the copies out."

STRAIGHT POLICE OFFICER

SFPD Amanda Abeysekera
Age 32 - Detective, SFPD - Bachelor's Degree in Law, SFU

A rarity on the San Francisco Force, an _Asian_ Indian, Amanda is a member of the San Francisco's Homicide squad, specializing in Gang and drug related homicides. She's beautiful and tough, often taking down bangers who are much larger than her own 5-foot-nothing frame.

She is also a friendly to Delta Green, having worked two Mythos related murders in the past, which - at the time - she believed were some form of strange gang-banger ritual.

She passes information on to someone she believes is a government agent working in something similar to the X-Files. Despite her career, she's something of a romantic, and believes the agency is kept hidden to avoid public panic. She will be devastated by what they might do to her in order to induct.
At this point in time, she's considered a friendly to be kept at a distance, because she would probably turn the conspiracy in if she new what was really happening. Her control-cell is waiting to compromise her by having her withhold/disappear evidence.
Once she's broken her own code of honor, she can be inducted into Delta Green Proper.

She noticed the difference between the fire investigators photo's and the forensic teams, and took a look at the transcribed notes of the Al-Azif, recognizing some of the jumbled phrases, she photocopied them all and sent them to a Post Office Box in Washington State. From there they made their way to A CELL.
