OVERVIEW

KEEPERS INTRODUCTION

Emerald shell follows the path of the Kitab Al-Azif, as it passes through the hands of the Kung Lok Triad, the American Underground Army, and finally the Aryan Brotherhood, before being used in a ritual to extract the life essence of people dying violent deaths. When DG gets involved, the book is in the hands of the leader of the American Underground Army, who plans to use to make an occult bomb to use against the federal government. Both the Aryan Brotherhood and the Triad are racing against each other and Delta Green to find it.

PLOT SYNOPSIS

At first, Delta Green has few clues as to the location of the book, and has to use the information that the police and fire department have already gathered. Legwork is the name of the game. Things hot up as the AUA explodes a bomb in a federal building, and the agents find that younger members of the Aryan Brotherhood have been kidnapped off the street, as the Triad searches for it's property. The cell finds that the most probable thief of the book, is a member of the American Underground army, a fireman named Carl Bradbury. They go to his apartment only to find somebody else has beaten them to it, Bradbury is dead, and there are few clues. Bradbury has passed the book on to his mentor, Bill Duggan, leader of the American Underground Army.

The Aryan Brotherhood is also chasing the book, and take if from the AUA's leader, Bill Duggan, most likely, just before the agents come to arrest him. They return it to the Bischoffe who examines it, and passes the good news back to the Triumvirate. His orders are to bring the book back as soon as he has completed his primary mission, the sacrifice of several hundred sub-humans and the capture of their life essence.

As DG continues the search, they are contacted by two unlikely allies, Agent Jakov Rosenberg, an ex-member (!) of DG now out of sanction, and continuing the fight against the Karotechia. Secondly the Kung Lok Triad - with sources of information beyond the ken of normal man - realise the powers of federal investigators will help them retrieve their prize. The Triad promises to keep the book safe, and ensure no other man reads it. Agent Rosenberg just wants to ensure the Karotechia dies a final death. Matters are complicated by Agent ANDREA who turns up to carry out a thirty year-old death sentence on Rosenberg, they have to balance their loyalty to DG and their fear of ANDREA against the aid the old man can give them, and their own honour in their dealings with him.

At the end, the book is tracked to an illegal rave being held in the basements of an old manor-house, destroyed in the '89 earthquake. There the Bischoffe is planning to kill as the ravers in a variety of ways, all of which designed to invoke as much terror as possible. As they die, their essence will be drawn into a fetish he has specially prepared, and then transported back to Le Estancia to power the Triumvirate's ascension to godhood!

WHY EMERALD SHELL?

We're almost halfway through the basic campaign at this point, and by this point, the DG agents should have a clue that something is going on, and that more and more of their operations are coming into contact with Neo-Nazi organizations, some with a lot of pull, and all somehow connected together at some level. At this point, the Emerald Hammer will crack the Emerald Shell, and the rot that is the Karotechia will be exposed.

HOW? The Emerald Shell will be cracked in one of several ways. We already have the International Taskforce LIBRETTO being talked about, and perhaps formed in some countries. By the end of Emerald Mirror, they should have an idea of who they are fighting against, but not where their enemy hides.

Agent Rosenberg will be able to supply some evidence about the vintage Karotechia, but his knowledge is mostly out of date, except for his description of Reinhardt Galt.
Many of the Bauer in this episode have information and documents that tie them together, and back to the Karotechia in turn.
The Aryan Brotherhood will roll over on certain people that will get Law enforcement types closer to the truth.
If the investigators are smart, they will tie associates of the American Underground Army to member of other worldwide Neo-Nazi organizations.
They might capture a Bischoffe, or one of his Ritter team, and gather evidence from their hotel rooms.

By the end of Emerald Shell, Delta Green will have "re-acquired the Karotechia".

Emerald Shell Timetable

This adventure should take place in the run-up to the San Francisco Immigrant Pride festival/march, which usually takes place on/around October 2nd.

It's an obvious target for the Special K, and one which may mislead agents for some time ;)

-10	The Bischoffe reaches town, he gives the AB one month to organise a large group of sub-humans that he can sacrifice to increase his personal power.
	Several pushers are tortured and murdered by the AB for info on possible drug labs/storage points. [HANDOUT]
-8	The Aryan's hit Tong dealers and crack houses in order to gain drugs. Their gains are not worth the loss of four men in the raids. The Bischoffe is not pleased.
-7	The AB gain enough intelligence to try for a drugs lab, they spend the next few days psyching up and getting enough weaponry/PCP together.
-5	The AB raid the Tong's drug lab.
	Threats from the American Underground Army are labeled "Credible" by the FBI's Behaviorial Science unit in Quantico. Their rating is revised to "definite threat".	[AUA]
-4	The Al Azif finds it's way into the hands of a member of the AUA. He's a fireman with the San Francisco Fire Department, and a part-time member of the American Underground army, he spends some time deciding what to do with it.	[AUA]
	The Bischoffe realises what just slipped through his hands, and executes an AB member [HANDOUT].
	The Bischoffe then orders the others to locate the book, whatever the cost. The AB begin to lean on 2nd-hand bookshop owners. Including ROSENBERG [HANDOUT]
-3	After some negotiation with the recalcitrant member, the head of the American Underground Army obtains the book. He immediately starts reading the chemist's transcriptions and realises and finds that he has something much more powerful than the anarchists cookbook in his possession! Visions of an occult, revolutionary war pass through his head.	[AUA]
-2	A DG Friendly in the SFPD notices differences between scene-of-crime photo's and fire-investigator's photo's in the lab of the Tong chemist. Investigating the evidence further she finds that a large manuscript has been removed. She takes copies of the pages avialable in the SFPD evidence room.
-1	The scraps of the Al Azif make their way into the hands of A CELL.
0	The Delta Green Agents get involved
1	Members of the Aryan Brotherhood run riot in Chinatown. Nobody is killed, but a lot of property damage is caused, and two members of the Tong are shot and left in hospital. The Tongs street gangs hit the streets in force to discover who hit their lab. This evening several informants turn up dead in the bay.	[Aryan Brotherhood] [Tong]
5	The Tong's capture and beat two members of the Aryan Brotherhood in order to trace down the book.	[Tong]
10	Agent ANDREA enters town here, her other sources have located ROSENBERG for her. She may enter earlier if the PC's report his presence.
11	Members of the SFPD 'execute' a member of the Aryan Brotherhood (AUA?) whilst trying to serve an arrest warrant. Other members promise revenge. The man was shot in the back whilst trying to escape, little mention of the illegal fully-auto weapon he had in his hands is made in the popular media. HANDOUT
12	The American Underground Army detonates a small explosive device in government buildings in San Francisco (need to find a volunteer), this of course assumes the Agent's haven't busted their ass.	[AUA]
13	News releases promise more AUA action until the government comes clean about the UN invasion, and the selling of American citizens and cattle to foreign powers for biowarfare experimentation. Possibly more conspiracy theory tie-in's here. HANDOUT	[AUA]
15	The Bischofe chooses the location for his sacrifice, the old Pharr Manor House one in one of the outer districts of the city. The AB buy the manor, and start theirpreparations.
16	The AB distributes pamphlets advertising an illegal rave to be held in the Phar Manor House.
19	The Tongs capture a bona fide member of the AB, and use torture to extract the location of the Al Azif from him.	[Tong]
20	Planned sacrifice!
	Depending on how much pull the Agents have over other people involved with the case, this may be a 5-way firefight. AB, AUA, Kung Lok Triads, Police, DG, etc. END-PIECE: Sacrifice of an entire illegal rave using... the resurrected dead.

These evens can be thrown in to spice up Emerald Shell or to keep your players off balance if they seem to be doing to well. More detail to come on some of these.

An AUA Sniper goes bjork from one of the struts of the golden Gate Bridge, and starts shooting at passing cars with his .50 cal Grizzly rifle. How to take him alive and find out what caused his madness?
The police investigating the Aryan Brotherhood/Tong firefight realise somebody is poaching on their turf and decided to warn them off.
The FBI special Agents investigating the American Underground army realise somebody is poaching on their turf and decided to warn them off.
The Agents become involved in an AUA bomb attempt the hard way, by being present when it goes off. All sorts of fun occurs during the ensuing chaos.
They get a shot at reducing the numbers of the Ritter team, when they're sent round to off the Agents.
The Tong's investigative team takes an interest in them, particularly useful if they haven't yet met the Tong Sorcerer, perhaps a warning beating is in order.
Agent Andrea demands a telpehone meeting (with a subordinate and requires a briefing on their actions so far.
The body of the Tong Chemist is pulled out of the bay, he has been killed by a Shrivelling spell, it's up to the SDG agents to provide a plausible explanation to the coroner.

LOCATIONS OVERVIEW

The Brownstone

This large old building is mostly burnt out, it was the last known resting place of the Kitab Al-Azif. There are few clues here that the police haven't spotted. However, it is being watch by the Tong.

Chinese Sorcerers Apartment and Herb Shop -Chinatown

They may be invited to meet other "Interested parties" in the race for the book. they might even come to an arrangement.

AUA Leaders Compound

A well-protected ranch up in the hills. The PC's come here looking for the book, they might raid it on their own, or they might send in the BATF! Either way, they're too late, the AB have already stolen the book. Some of the family survived the attack, and it will take a lot of effort to talk them down.

Knight Team's Hotel Room - Pacific Heights

Pick a nice hotel where they can take over the penthouse suite, then add their own security in. It would be difficult for the agents to trace them here, but possible. An efficient team of agents could pick up much information and cripple the ability of the Karotechia to carry out their mission in San Francisco.

Rosenberg's Books - the Haight

This small out of the way bookshop is the current hiding place of Jakov Rosenberg, ex DG-Agent, "Out of Sanction" for over twenty years. The shop specialises in "pre-owned" books, many of them conspiracy oriented, and not a few occult tomes,

Zebulon Phaar Mansion

An old mansion lain abandoned since the great quake, it has been readied to serve as a sacrificial site to gather POW for the Karotechia's ascencion.

THE CONTESTANTS

The Kitab Al-Azif is quite a prize, particularly with the annotations made by past owners. There are original annotations by a Chinese sorcerer dead for several hundred years, as well as the modern translation into english begun by the tong's Chemist.

Aryan Brotherhood

They want to sell drugs to minorities, and if they take them away from dealers who will force them on their genetic betters, then so much the better. The Aryan brotherhood don't have the Kitab Al-Azif, but the Karotechia has ordered them to get it. They have also been ordered to prepare for a mass sacrifice.

American Underground Army

They want the government off their back. To do it, they'll fight. Now they have a new weapon. Their leader has seen the book at work already, and he needs time to study it.
Anybody who isn't with them, must be against them.

The Tongs

The Tongs want their drugs back. They also want the AB dead. Preferably in as bloody a way as possible as a warning. when their leaders learn about the book, they'll want that too. The Tong's Poo Yow Choy are pretty brutal in their methods, but they know when to 'lawyer up' as well.

The Chemist

He wants his tome back. He doesn't mind who dies in the process. He doesn't want the Tong to find out about it.
He's a nerd with more knowledge than morals and sense.

Oriental Street Gangs

These provide muscle and information to the Tong's, they'll turn up as minor hoods and thugs, the sort most DG operatives will just brush out of the way.
They'll probably fall foul of the Hard Liner's, or the AB's mass sacrifice.
Bui Doi, the Dust of Life in Vietnamese.

Delta Green

They want to know what the hell's going on..... Why are so many Neo-Nazi's crawling out of the woodwork, and why do they have such occult leanings. More importantly, why are there so many tendrils that connect the uncovering of occult books back to a certain organization in New York.

Agent Rosenberg

Agent Rosenberg wants to bust the Karotechia, he never believed they died out, and now finally his crusade can continue. At some point, the agents will come to his attention, and he will balance his own need for safety and secrecy against informing them about what they really face.

Agent Andrea

Agent Andrea wants to destroy the Mythos as much as the next member of Delta Green However, she also wants the conspiracy kept as clean as possible. If he is brought to her attention she might want Agent Rosenberg dead or "contained"; as there's still an outstanding murder warrant for him.

Legitimate Law Enforcement

Legitimate law enforcement mostly want the gang war headed off and stopped. That means stopping the Aryan's. Federal Law enforcement is interested in the possible terrorist leanings of the American Underground Army. Depending on the way the team plays it, they may end up as an ally or an enemy.

Die Bischoffe and his Ritter Team

The Bischoffe has been placed in charge of organizing a mass sacrifice of the corrupt citizens of San Francisco, this sunny city of vice shall be used to power the Karotechia's ascension to god-hood.
When the existence of the Al-Azif comes to his attention, He contacts the boss back home, and requests back up, expanding his usual bodyguards with a Ritter Team, a group of heavily armed and highly trained Nazi's.
He will steal the corpses of those involved with the books disappearance and squeeze the Aryan Brotherhood until he can get enough information to despatch his goons to recover the book.
