So there I was, surfing the web, and how Phil Ward could have possibly missed these Rare Book and Document Preservation sites I have no idea:

• Home of CoOL - Conservation Online Library, probably a little too complete
• The Brittle Books Manual, also way too much info.
• This site is just the Bomb!
• The BookArts links to preservation sites, a good starting point.
• A good glossary from a childrens book site. Although the U. Florida's one is probably better.

Anyway, a brief glance at the above sites and a few more would indicate that Information and Library Science feels that microfilm and digitization are the way to go with rare books, so don't be suprised to find out that a lot of old mythos tomes are going online.

As for dehumidifiers and refrigeration? Vaccuum Chambers? I dunno.
