BEREN LY VACIER - HAMMER OF MAYAHEINE

Beren is (as far as he knows), the last surviving Palladin of Mayaheine, the Paladin-Lady raised to god-hood by Pelor to serve him during the first round of the Greyhawk wars.

Raised in her faith, by Durnik the smith, his adopted parent in Kit's gate, he has become strong and true, and serves her well. He is an expert swordsman, but prefers to wield his heavy smithy hammer (stats as per a footman's mace) in her service. After his brave actions on the front-line and at the Council of Princes, his goddess has rewarded him by blessing his hammer, and transforming it into a potent holy weapon. It was after this that he becmae known as the Hammer of Mayaheine.

When he rode out of Kit's gate, he did so on Fallen, the smith's old draft horse, a strong and tireless worker in his day, Fallen was beginning to age badly when he was shot by Mrtel with a poisoned crossbow bolt. Unwilling to abandon his charge, Beren risked his life in a quest to find an antidote to the poison. In doing so, Fallen was revitalised and became Beren's bonded mount.
As he continues in his quest to defeat evil, Beren has been further blessed by his goddes, and has gained the ability to cast spells, which he uses to cast a protective ward that enables him to know when his siblings are at risk.

Beren is a 6th level Palladin with exceptional strength, and a bonded warhorse, his hammer is currently +2, and will probably grow in power as he does, eventually becoming a holy weapon if he can complete enough quests.

Beren uses the improved spell-casting rules from the Palladins handbook, meaning he gets his spells at 6th level (1 1st), and has an extra spehere.

Morty

Morty is Beren's follower, a retarded half-orc (mostly human looking though) who was apprenticed to the smith in Fort Disaster(?) When his master was slain by the assassin who lead the party to the Cragson mines, Morty was initially blamed, as his simple nature lead to him not being able to explain what happened.

Beren worked out the truth before the half-wit could be executed, but realising that no-one would look after the boy, he took him with him, and has been trying to train him to live up to Mayaheine's code of honour.

Tarko

Tarko was a mercenary who Beren met wqhilst guarding the caravan along the border. Since then they have met up again, and Tarko hired on as Beren's shield-man.
The man is a competent fighter, but a little to fond of drink and women (not to mention old) to become a good squire. Tarko serves as a slightly less reputable character for Beren's player, allowing him to undertake "covert" investigations and enter the less reputable area's without having to get involved in every little evil he see's.
