Steyr Scout Rifle

The Steyr Scout rifle was specified by Jeff Cooper as a general purpose rifle in 1983:

"... a conveniently portable, individually operated firearm, capable of striking a single decisive blow, on a live target up to 200 kilos in weight, at any distance at which the operator can shoot with the precision necessary to place a shot in a vital area of the target."

A scout is one man, highly trained in field-craft, moving from cover to cover. It also had to meet the following requirements:

* The Tactical Variant has a 20" Barrel which is threaded for sound suppressors, and a 1:10 twist rate which will allow the use of sub-sonic rounds. It also has an oversized bolt-handle and black finished bolt, it is not sold with a sling or scope. This version is available in Switzerland.
The US Version has a 1:12 barrel with no muzzle threading. It is expected to cost $1995

** The Big Game Scout has a heavier barrel and a black stock. Recoil is roughly double that of the scout.
