Heckler and Koch G36

G36 Full Size
The G36 is H&K's newest weapon-line, born from the ashes of the G11 project, and a combination and refinment of many different designs, and is not operated by roller delayed blowback, rather it is gas operated like an M-16. Whoever, unlike the M16, the gas is not vented back into the action, but into the forearm, so the weapon is a lot less likely to jam. HK are reputed to have put 25000 rounds through one without cleaning and not had a stoppage yet!

The G36 is available with either a dual sighting system or with a single 1.5 power reticle. The dual system has a red dot sight above a 3.5 power reticle.
This red dot sight is battery powered, but a sliding window on top of the sight can be opened to use daylioght, and conserve battery power.

Night Sight
The sight can be removed, and a Zeiss/Hensoldt NSA 80 passive night vision device fitted to provide night-foghting capabilities without having to re-zero the sights. However, this sight is approximately $7000!

As the almost all of the weapon is made of polymers (bar the barrel), the weapon is extremely light to carry, and it's superb ergonomics make it easy to operate.

MG36

A support variant of the G36, which accepts 100 round Beta C-Mags in order to provide sustained fire in a support role.

G36K ("Kurtz" ?)

A short-barrelled variant, which in order to combat muzzle-flash (see the HK-53), the G36K has a four-pronged flash-hider fitted to the barrel.

G36C ("Commando")

This extremely short-barrelled weapon is intended as an entry weapon for CQB. It has an extremely short 8 inch barrel, and open sights. the stock, flash-hider and forearm are all shorted, and the open sights are borrowed from the UMP-45.
It may be that this is offered as a conversion kit for existing G36K's, rather than a ready-to-use gun in a box.

HOOKS

Obviously, this weapon is not widely used outside of Germany yet, and the US Military is unlikely to give up their beloved M16 pattern, so any opposing force with one of these either has access to test weaponry (NRO Delta), or good german contacts (the Karotechia).
